The Daily News

Daily News

Founded in 1919, the Daily News is an American newspaper based in New York City. It is the first U.S. daily newspaper printed in tabloid format, reaching its peak circulation in 1947 at 2.4 million copies per day.

One of the most popular newspapers in the United States, the Daily News is known for its lurid and often sensational coverage of crime and scandal, large photographs, and other entertainment features. It also boasts an extensive opinion section, and a devoted sports section.

It is owned by tronc, the publishing operations of the former Tribune Company, and is headquartered at 4 New York Plaza in Lower Manhattan. Its website has a traffic-generating “Daily News E-dition” that replicates the paper’s design and contents to provide a seamless online experience.

The Daily News Building, designed by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood, is a notable landmark in the city’s skyline and was the model for the Daily Planet building in the first two Superman films. The News also owns WPIX-TV, a local television station, and operates several other publications and services throughout the city.

AllSides Media Bias Rating(tm) of Left

Despite their name, the Daily News is not a “right-leaning” news outlet. It has a moderate-to-liberal editorial stance, but is still strongly opposed to immigration and social conservative policies.

This is a medium-sized news site that has been rated as being a “left-leaning” media outlet by AllSides. Generally, sources that have an AllSides Media Bias Rating of Left tend to display more liberal or progressive media bias in ways that are likely to affect political outcomes in the U.S. They may also have a more pronounced influence on social or economic policy issues.
