The Daily News

Daily News

Founded in 1919 as the Illustrated Daily News, the New York Daily News has become one of the most widely read newspapers in the United States. In fact, the newspaper was the first to print a daily in tabloid format, reaching peak circulation of 2.4 million copies a day in 1947.

Pulitzer Prizes won

During a tumultuous year, the Pulitzer Prizes were awarded to the Daily News, the New York Times, ProPublica and the Washington Post. These prizes were given for outstanding journalism and literary work produced in 2021.

The New York Daily News Editorial Board won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting for a series that documented the growing medical fallout from the 9-11 attacks and forced the government to reexamine its medical response. The series also uncovered new benefits for emergency responders and rescuers.

Founded in 1878, the Daily News has been around for over a century and is considered the dean of the business community in Texas. For the last 80 years, it has operated out of a brick building in the 2100 block of Mechanic Street in Galveston. It is the oldest daily newspaper in the state, followed by the Austin American-Statesman and the Dallas Morning News.

The Daily News also operates in Fremont, CA. It is owned by the Moody family of Galveston. The paper has a small but mighty staff, albeit not in the same numbers as those of the Daily News of Galveston, Texas.
