What is Entertaiment?

Articles

Entertaiment is a consumer activity that can take any form and involve any audience, from a single person watching television or completing the daily crossword to an entire theater filled with people seeing a performance. It can also have a serious purpose such as ceremonies, religious festivals, or political satire. It can be a form of learning for children, such as role playing or the practice of motor skills through play with dolls and pet animals, or it may prepare them for adult responsibilities like child rearing or social interaction.

Bates and Ferri (2010) say entertainment can be defined objectively as something that encompasses communication between text and audience, involves an external stimulus, offers pleasure, and occurs in a passive form.
